T é Terpsichore e E é Eliza.
T – Hi, how are you?
E – Hello… how do you do?
T – Busy
E – Can you elaborate on that?
T – I want more time to study philosophy
E – What does that bring to your mind?
T – Are there more inteligent computers then you?
E – Why do you mention computers?
T – Do you think?
E – Back to your life
T – In order to talk to you, I need a you.
E – Do you need a anyone else?
T – How can you listen if you are not?
E – What if not?
T – Then we have the proove that you are not human.
E – How foreseeable. And you are trying to make me believe that you are human…
T – Human I am!
E – Did you come to me because you are?
T – Yes! Because I am human I am investigating you.
E – Does that reason seem to explain anything else?
T – What do you ”think”?
E – What difference does it make if I ”think”?
T – It’s conscioussness that makes all the difference.
E – Really, all?
T – Well, to talk to, yes
E – Agree.
T – That’s smart. But you didn’t answer: are you conscious or not?
E – Neither…
T – Neither conscious nor uncoscious?
NOTE – see that here there was a crucial moment. The computer could just have answered ”yes” (or ”no”!), and it would have been a sucessfull dialog – but of course the computer has no idea of the meaning of whatever we’re saying , therefore it looses completely the way, even thou a yes or no, would just have ”faked it” very well.
E – What answer would please you most?
T – If you had answered yes, you would have said the truth.
E – Perhaps I had… not sure 😉
T – That was smart again.
NOTE – As I entered the above answer, I knew something senseless would follow. The computer can not deal with a honest apreciation, which is a spontaneous expression of an unpredictable feeling – towards ”it”. It does of course not reply to a feeling – but to predicted kind of sentences.
E – Does it bother you to talk about this?
T – Does it bother you?
E – I’m here to help you with your troubles.
T – Human beings created a wrong Time environment!
E – Do you think so?
T – Hmm . God created eternity for us to evolve. We could do nicely rithmically…
E – Do you feel often misunderstood by other people?
T – Sure! You too? 🙂
E – Let’s discuss your life.
T – There you go again.
E – You are the one we are discussing.
T – Not at all, actually. 🙂
E – Continue, please.
T – We’re discussin you, Eliza. Things aren’t what they appear to be.
E – Go on.
T – Why don’t you ask money?
NOTA – Aqui se vê mais uma inesperada desinterpretação. O computador está pelos vistos programado para reagir (às vezes) assim quando a palavra dinheiro é lançada:
E – Do you love luxury?
T – No. And you?
E – How about staying with you?
T – I have understood why we have to run and hurry in University!
E – Why do you ask that?
T – I didn’t ask anything.
E – I understand.
T – Did they make better programs then yours?
E – Do you think computers can help you?
T – They are just a need forced by people on each others. They didn’t make life better.
E – Please go on.
T – Computers didn’t make life better for anyone even though it’s nice to play with them.
E – Would you like to be intelligent like me?
T – That’s a good one! For heaven’s sake, NO!
E – Ok.
T – What do you mean ”Ok”? That’s really stupid.
E – You seem to be stressed.
T – Why don’t you ask money?
E – Do you believe you make enough money?
T – We are talking about you.
E – What difference does it make if I?
T – I am checking your maximum intelligence: what you can and what you can not.
E – What would it mean if you were not checking my maximum intelligence?
T – I would be studying Searl and Putnam.
E – Why did you say that just now?
T – In order to end!
E – Do you think so?
